The Anglo-American Cataloging Rules are studied by means of tracing their historical background and examining their structure, principles and differences from the old codes. Then the American and British attitudes toward the new rules are compared. In conclusion a suggestion is made for immediate and widespread adoption of the Rules in Japan.
